As a community band we welcome all woodwind and brass players. The current band line-up includes flutes, oboes, clarinets, saxophones, bassoons, horns, trombones, trumpets, euphoniums, tuba and percussion, and there are parts for other wind instruments. There are no auditions and no minimum or maximum standard (although it is necessary for players to be able to read music). All we ask is that members attend rehearsals regularly and play as much as possible. Our members are of all ages, and from different backgrounds – what we have in common is the enjoyment we get from making music. Come and join us!
Read rehearsals information on this page and get in touch if you'd like to come along to a couple of rehearsals with a view to joining.
We currently have specific vacancies for bassoon, trombone, horn, and percussion (we own a large amount of percussion which members are welcome to use) but there are always places for players of other instruments.
An annual membership subscription (currently £60 pa) is payable by all members. For those joining part way through the year or for short periods (e.g. students on vacation) we offer a £5 per month fee by arrangement. The band is funded from members’ subscriptions, donations, paid performances and general fundraising.
We have a number of ‘gigs’ throughout the year – see the Events page for details of recent and upcoming performances – which gives us a welcome opportunity to showcase our music. These are always great fun for players and the audience, despite the challenges sometimes posed when playing outdoors during the British summer!
For further details, please contact Jane Hughes (new members secretary) by email on firstname.lastname@example.org
